To fight depression..

The ideal number of times

to have sexual intercourse per week

A team of researchers from Shantou University in China has highlighted the

potential relationship between the frequency of sex and mental health

in a large :

scale study that included thousands of American adults.

The study aimed to explore the effect of the frequency of sexual activity on mood

and levels of depression, especially in light of the limited effectiveness of some

traditional psychological treatments.

The study :

  • which included 14,741 American adults
  • who were asked to fill out questionnaires
  • about their sexual activity in addition to

evaluating their psychological state through an approved diagnostic questionnaire

called "PHQ-9," noted that those who have sex at least once a week have a reduced

risk of developing symptoms of a mood disorder by up to 24%.% compared to those

who practice it less than once a month.

The results showed that :

this protective effect is more pronounced in the age group between 20 and 30

years, where these young people have the greatest protection from depression.

The team concluded that :

having sex once a week is sufficient to significantly reduce the risk of depression

stressing that this frequency of intimate relationships enhances mental health

without the need for exaggeration or excess. It has even been shown that

the maximum benefit is achieved when having sex

about 103 times a year, that is, approximately twice a week.

Researchers explain this by saying that

  • sexual activity leads to the secretion of "happiness" hormones
  • such as endorphins and dopamine, which are known
  • for their positive effect in reducing stress, relieving pain

and improving mood.

These chemicals rise in the body by up to 200% during sexual intercourse.

Professor Mutong Chen, co-author of the study

commented:

"Regardless of sexual orientation

sexual activity provides many benefits to mental health and quality of life.".

The researchers hope that these results will open the door to integrating sexual

care into mental health promotion plans, and exploring natural and enhanced

alternative methods to traditional treatments to combat depression.

This discovery comes at a time when about 280 million people around the world

suffer from depression, amid the limited effectiveness of traditional treatments

such as antidepressants or psychotherapy

which benefit only approximately half of patients.

Doctors reveal unexpected benefits of

love and intimacy on health

British doctors announced that love and intimacy stimulate

the immune system, which leads to longer life expectancy.

The Sun points out that, according to Dr.Rachel Ward

a specialist at the Center on Aging, intimacy leads to longer life.

She says:

  • "The love and feelings shown when a person is loved cause happiness
  • and reduce the likelihood of mental disorders. Meaningful relationships
  • are important, because they extend life expectancy," he said.

She adds that non-romantic relationships

have a positive impact on the person as well.

For her part :

psychologist Anita Baines announced that intimacy and a long-term close

relationship stimulate the immune system. This happens because

the two partners exchange bacteria, which leads to strengthening

the immune system over time. And love reduces the risk of depression.

She explains:

  • "This is because the person maintains his partner’s company
  • and provides him with emotional support, which alleviates feelings of
  • loneliness and isolation.". Moreover, people in such relationships move more

often motivating each other to exercise.

Dr.Pippa Murphy, a sexologist, emphasizes that intimate relationships are

beneficial for the heart and blood vessels, especially for women.

She says:

"A study by New England Research Institute scientists in Massachusetts shows that

having sex twice a week reduces the risk of heart disease by 50 percent.

And that the more sex you have, the less the risk," he said.

According to her, intimacy helps healthy sleep.

She says: "Have sex before bed, then you will fall asleep quickly and sleep more healthy.".
