For the first time in 20 years..
a strong magnetic storm hits the Earth
In the coming hours, the Earth is experiencing a powerful solar storm following
a major explosion in the Sun's disk, which led to the issuance of warnings
the first of its kind in 20 years.
- The storm is likely to cause overlapping power grids and communications
- and navigation systems, and is likely to continue to affect the Earth's
- magnetic field for hours after it is over.
Given that solar activity has been very strong in recent times, the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration, which monitors space weather, issued
an unusual storm warning on Thursday, upgraded to a larger warning on Friday
the first of its kind in 20 years.
Earlier, the Solar Astronomy
Laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced the registration of
a Class X3.9 solar explosion, the strongest of its kind in the past 25 years.
Laboratory chief Sergei Bogachev said a very strong magnetic storm started on
the ground, could last 20 to 40 hours.
During strong magnetic storms
- people may feel headaches, weakness, high pressure and insomnia.
- Scientists attribute this to the fact that when the magnetic field fluctuates
- poetic blood flow slows down and oxygen deficiencies occur.
It should be noted that the most notable solar storm in history occurred in 1859
known as Carrington, where it lasted for about a week, giving rise to twilight
spanning Hawaii and Central America and affecting hundreds of
thousands of miles of telegraph lines.
Musk shows the effect of the major geomagnetic
solar storm on Starlink satellites.
SpaceX's Starlink satellites are under increasing pressure due to a
powerful geomagnetic storm hitting Earth for the first time in 20 years.
US billionaire Elon Musk said on Saturday that a major geomagnetic
solar storm was happening now, the largest in a long time.
"Starlink satellites
are currently under considerable pressure, but they are holding up so far."
The "Starlink" is a satellite-based Internet service, designed to deliver the Internet
to disadvantaged areas where the traditional Internet service system does not.
The Starlink system consists of thousands of satellites placed in low Earth orbit
which are connected to each other to create an overlapping network capable of
providing high-speed Internet access.
The storm is likely to cause overlapping power grids and communications
and navigation systems and is likely to have an impact on
the Earth's magnetic field for hours after its conclusion.
