Ukrainian :
forces build defensive lines similar to
Russia's "Sorofikin Line"
The British Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday that Ukrainian troops
were involved in building defensive lines similar to the "Sorofikin Line"
established by the Russian army along the front.
The Ukrainian military leadership is moving to "active defence"
the installation of anti-tank barriers known as "dragon tusks"
and the establishment of underground command posts.
The defence structures
are being built in close proximity to those in Krasny Lehmann
Avdiivka and Krasnoarmesk in the Donetsk People's Republic
Kobyansk in
the Kharkov and Chernigov regions, as well as on the border with Belarus.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denis Shmigal announced that the Kiev
Government had decided to allocate a standard fund package to
build defence lines of about $466 million.
The Financial Times also reported in an article published on Friday that
Ukraine had changed its tactics and moved to defence after its failed counter
attack last summer, with the West not expecting
a new attack from Kiev before 2025.
What is the
"Sorovikin Line" that placed Ukrainian "
counter-attack" tanks in the "dragon tusks"?
The term "Sorovikin Line" has come out in Western media in the past
and has become every tongue of Western military analysts
who have been stunned by the loss of Ukrainian troops in recent weeks
and the huge defeat of the "counter-attack"
on which NATO leaders have relied.
The term "Sorofikin Line"
began circulating by Western media at the end of 2022
with Western newspapers calling the defence lines established
by the Russian army along the front this label.
The name was linked to that of former Russian Force Commander in
the Special Military Operation area Sergey Sorofikin
who last year confirmed to Defence
Minister Sergey Shoigu that
"the combat capabilities of the Joint Group Forces are expanding significantly
and the number of crews in battle was increased as a result of mobilization
with a reserve (of troops) established."
This Russian defensive line posed a real and significant obstacle to
the thousands of armored and combatants who were swarmed
by the West backed by billions of US dollars and Western euros that
suddenly evaporated on the line of contact in the face of the Russian military.
Ukrainian
and Western officials admitted that the counter
-attack faced successive setbacks due to Russia's fortified
defences and the competence of Russian military and soldiers.
Russian President Vladimir Putin
announced on July 21 that Western
countries were very frustrated with the course of the "counter-attack"
initiated by Ukrainian forces and had not yet achieved any result.
Kiev
began to lose Western support from Western States and lost
confidence in Western promises, especially after being unable to achieve
any breakthrough on the front and suffering heavy losses. The U.S. Congress
has been in discussions for several months over the approval of the 2024 fiscal
year budget, which began in the country on October 1, and the bills
reached between Republicans and Democrats
did not include aid to Israel and Ukraine.
