The New Year was celebrated by New Zealand and the Pacific Islands

the first to celebrate the New Year, and the last to celebrate the people of

 American Samoa and the Medway Island.


New Zealand received New Year 2024, with fireworks

 displays held in Auckland and other cities in the country in 

a large crowd of revellers.



In Australia, as usual

the New Year's celebration took place in Sydney Harbour

usually consisting of two fireworks displays - the "Family Fireworks"

 evening at 9:00 p.m., followed by the main fireworks at midnight.

In Dubai

fireworks were fired from Burj al-Arab and Burj Khalifa. 

A state of silence prevailed in Sharjah following the announcement of 

the cancellation of the celebrations in solidarity with Gaza.


On a tour of some other countries that celebrated the Year

China celebrated relatively quietly, with most large cities banning fireworks

 due to safety and pollution concerns. 

However

people and dancers gathered in colourful clothes in Beijing

while a crowd launched wishballs in Chongqing.



Traditional New Year fireworks lit up Hong Kong's skyline

and the Drone parade was held in the Shenzhen Nanshan region.


In Turkey

fireworks lit up the city of Istanbul

with the first hours of dawn of the first day of the New Year

witnessing one of the largest demonstrations

with hundreds of thousands of people gathering on the Galatah Bridge

 for a march entitled "Mercy for our martyrs, support for Palestine, fuck Israel".


In the Lebanese capital

Beirut

celebrations and fireworks that usually light the capital's skies were absent

while a demonstration was called in solidarity with the Gaza Strip

and in refusal to continue aggression.


In the United States of America, the most prominent New Year's

celebrations are taking place in New York City


where it has become customary for large crowds to gather amid the chaos of

 the spotlight in Times Square. At 11:59 p.m., a dazzling ball falls down a pole


while attendees, and millions of people following the event from their homes

count down from 60. At midnight, the crowd cheered with loud sounds.


In Germany, fireworks lit up

 the statue of Cuadriga at the top of the Brandenburg Gate

while police announced that security elements had been attacked

 using fireworks on New Year's Eve.


Some 500 people initially threw

 fireworks at each other next to Neptune's fountain.


 The police disengaged and checked the fireworks. Afterwards

she herself was attacked by a group of about 200 people

a number of whom were arrested.


The British capital, London, was greeted in 2024 with the beats of Big Ben

where fireworks were fired, and drones lit up the city with the words

 "London, a place for everyone."


In Brazil

tremendous crowds gathered 

at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro for one of the world's largest celebrations

 which attracts an estimated 2 million people each year

marking the start of the summer holidays.


There are many traditions that some Brazilians follow to welcome

 the New Year

ranging from wearing white clothes to jumping in 7 waves.
