Pentagon:
We are convinced that
Ukraine will use depleted uranium missiles responsibly
The Pentagon announced that the United States is convinced that
Ukraine will use depleted uranium missiles responsibly.
Speaking to :
CNN on the eve of the announcement of
the new US military aid package for Ukraine
Deputy Pentagon
spokesman Sabrina Singh said on Wednesday:
- I don't want to pre-empt any announcements that
- the Pentagon has not made yet today
- but I will say that these munitions are traditionally used in tanks
- not just those used by the US, but those we will provide to Ukraine.
As they are included in
the packages to be announced today or in the coming weeks
we are fully convinced that the Ukrainians will use them responsibly in their fight
for the restoration of their sovereign territory in the east and north as well.
The United States
is not the first country to decide to supply Ukraine
with depleted uranium missiles, as Britain announced a similar decision last March.
Russia :
condemned Ukraine's decision to supply depleted uranium missiles
warning of the effects of their use on the environment.
What is depleted uranium weapon
Depleted uranium weapon is a weapon consisting of
pieces of depleted uranium
- a by-product of uranium enrichment. Depleted uranium is
- a high density radioactive material
- which makes it effective in penetrating shields.
Depleted uranium weapon is used in a variety of weapons
including:
- Artillery shells
- Missiles
- Bombs
- Shields
When the depleted uranium weapon is released
the pieces of depleted uranium penetrate the shield or target
- causing serious damage.
- This can lead to injury or death of soldiers or civilians
In addition
to being an effective weapon
depleted uranium weapon also raises environmental
and health concerns.
Depleted uranium can be released when using weapons, resulting in air
soil and water pollution.
This pollution can cause serious health risks to humans and animals.
The use of depleted uranium in warfare has been criticized
by some international organizations, including the United Nations.
These critics argue that the use of depleted uranium weapons constitutes
a violation of international law, as it involves the use of inhumane weapons.
Here are some of
the main effects of depleted uranium weapon:
Fatal effects:
Depleted uranium missiles can injure
or kill soldiers or civilians when they penetrate shields or targets.
Environmental effects:
Depleted uranium can be released when using weapons
resulting in air
soil and water pollution.
This pollution can cause serious health risks to humans and animals.
Health effects:
depleted uranium exposure can cause serious diseases
including cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Research suggests that the use of depleted uranium weapons
may have long-lasting effects on the environment and public health.
