Reznikov's dismissal and the comment is not public
US President Joe Biden :
- speaking with reporters, said he knew about the dismissal of
- Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov
- but refrained from publicly commenting on the news.
While in Delaware on Sunday, Biden said he was aware that Zelensky had replaced his secretary of defense. Asked if he had any comment, Biden said, "Not publicly."
Earlier on Sunday evening
- Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that
- he had decided to remove Defence Minister Alexei Reznikov
- from his post and appoint Rustam Umarov to replace him.
For his part :
- the Speaker of the Crimean Parliament
- Vladimir Constantinov, stated that the dismissal of
- Ukrainian Defence Minister Alexei Reznikov
was linked to the failure of the Ukrainian forces' "counter-attack".
The Ukrainian
counter-attack began last June 4
with Kiev deploying NATO-trained brigades carrying Western weapons
including Leopard tanks that were widely deployed on the battlefield
and then making footage of a number of burning military vehicles on
the battlefield resonate widely in the West.
