DeSantis beats Trump in new poll

A new poll shows Florida Governor Ron DeSantis outperforming former US President Donald Trump as the leader of Republicans' preferred party.

According to The Associated Press and NORC

22% of Republicans said they wanted DeSantis to

be party leader, and 20% said they wanted Trump.

However

the majority of 34% said they did not know

who should lead the party or did not answer the question.

No other Republican received more than 1 percent in the poll

including former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who announced her 2024 campaign, becoming the first Republican to formally run against Trump.

19% of respondents said they viewed Trump as the party's current leader

compared with 10% who said the same about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and 9% who viewed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as the party's leader.

Ron DeSantis

  • Florida's current governor, has emerged as a potential candidate
  • for the 2024 US presidential election. DeSantis
  • a Republican, has gained national attention

due to the way he handled the COVID-19 pandemic in Florida

his conservative policies, and his adherence to Donald Trump, the former president.

Since 2019, DeSantis has been Florida's governor.

  • and has gained a reputation for his conservative policies.
  • Many bills have been signed that limit access to abortion
  • expand gun rights, and protect companies from COVID-19

related lawsuits. He also made loud criticisms of

critical race theory and pushed for a ban on its teaching in Florida's schools.

During the COVID-19 pandemic

DeSantis was criticized for his response to the virus

However :

he defended his approach, arguing that he had prioritized the protection of

individual rights and the economy.

DeSantis did not impose a statewide mask mandate

instead leaving it up to individual counties and cities to decide.

Businesses have also been allowed to stay open, despite the pandemic. DeSantis claimed that Florida's economy fared better than other states that imposed tougher restrictions.

DeSantis also aligned closely with former President Donald Trump.

He implemented policies consistent with Trump's agenda

and Trump praised DeSantis, calling him a "great governor."

DeSantis also hired several former

Trump administration officials to work in his administration.

Should DeSantis decide to seek the presidency in 2024

he will likely face a crowded Republican primary field.

  • Mike Pence, the former vice president, is one of the additional candidates.
  • former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
  • Senators Ted Cruz and Tom Cotton.

DeSantis has yet to announce his candidacy

but he has been raising donations and traveling to key states, such as Iowa and New Hampshire, which are crucial to presidential campaigns.

DeSantis has many advantages in a potential presidential bid.

He has a strong support base among governors

and a track record of enacting conservative policies as governor.

His handling of :

the COVID-19 :

  • pandemic has made him a prominent figure in
  • the Republican Party, and his alliance with
  • Trump could help him win over supporters of the former president.

However :

DeSantis also faces many challenges.

Its response to the COVID-19 pandemic may be a responsibility

especially if cases continue to rise in Florida. In addition

he will need to distinguish himself from other Republican primary candidates, many of whom have similar political positions. He may also need to appeal to moderate voters if he wants to win the general election.

In conclusion :

Ron DeSantis is a potential candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

  • He has gained national attention for his handling of
  • the COVID-19 pandemic, his conservative policies
  • and his adherence to Donald Trump, the former president.

While he has many advantages in a potential bid

he also faces challenges and will need to

distinguish himself from other Republican primary candidates. Only time will tell whether DeSantis ultimately decides to run and whether he will succeed in his bid for president.
