Pelosi: Trump is not a man enough to testify before Congress

Speaker Nancy Pelosi of the U.S. House of Representatives has sparked widespread controversy with revelatory descriptions of former President Donald Trump, including that he is "too cowardly", during new debates about his testimony before Congress.

Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday that Trump was too cowardly to enforce a congressional subpoena forcing him to testify before a special committee investigating his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

Pelosi said in an interview with MSNBC:

  • "I don't think he's a man enough to show up.
  • I don't think lawyers will want to attend because
  • he has to testify under oath ".

We'll see if he's man enough to turn up.

Trump's refusal to testify must be judged by the public for this decision, Pelosi continued.

"No one is above the law.

If we believe it, they should make a judgement on how it will respond to this request ".

The Select Committee announced on Friday that it had issued a subpoena to Trump, granting him until November 4 to provide a wide range of documents related to his activities before and after the deadly attack by the former president's supporters on January 6.

The committee also told Trump that it wanted him to testify on or near November 14.

The attack took place at the Capitol when Trump supporters tried to block Congress from formally certifying Democratic rival Joe Biden's 2020 presidential victory.

Pelosi refuses to say if Democrats win House majority

U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi declined to comment on whether she would continue in office if Democrats win the House majority in the upcoming midterm elections.

In an interview with CBS, presenter Margaret Brennan asked: "Will 82-year-old Nancy Pelosi continue in her position.

Pelosi was quoted by The Hill as saying:

"I'm not going to talk about it. I'm here to talk about how we won the election. "

Earlier, Pelosi acknowledged that she would remain in office until the end of the term, but some members of Congress expressed the view that, should Democrats win the House, the Speaker would continue to serve in her post.

Pelosi expects Democratic Party to retain control of House of Representatives after midterm congressional elections

Speaker of the U.S.

House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi says she believes the Democratic Party will retain control of the House of Representatives after November's congressional midterm elections.

"I think we're going to win the House"

Pelosi said, stressing that "we're going to retain the House by winning more seats." Democrats currently have an additional one-seat majority in the House.

Pelosi predicted that the Democratic victories in November

would reflect those of 2020, adding:

  1.  "We won 40 seats
  2. then we lost some of them when (former President Donald)
  3. Trump was on the ballot

and we lost some of Trump's counties, but we held enough seats to take control of the House of Representatives."
