Kadyrov compares the referendum in Donbass, Zaporoje and Jairson to Chechnya's 2003 status
The President of Chechnya, Ramadan Kadyrov :
- compared the referendums on joining Russia
- which began with the Donbass, Zaporoje and Jairson republics
- to the 2003 vote in Chechnya, after which the region flourished.
Kadyrov noted that he had been watching with interest and pride how the referendum on the future of these areas had begun in the Donetsk People's Republic, as well as in the Lugansk People's Republic and in the Zaporoje and Jairson regions.
"This is a long-awaited event!
We remember how at the beginning of the 2000s the people of the Republic of Chechnya were waiting for a referendum to put an end to the bloodshed and become full citizens of Russia.
That's what happened. Any willing can see how our region flourished after this important event. After the referendum we have peace.
We are starting to live, not tension to survive, to build cities, and now we are living in total safety ".
The Chechen President congratulated the Presidents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Denis Bushlin and Leonid Pashnik, on "an important and responsible event in the lives of several million people,"
adding :
"I am sure the people of Donbass, Zaporoje and Jairson will make the same right choice for their future. Russia does not abandon its people and will do its utmost to make its citizens feel safe ".
