After the FBI searched former President Mar-a-Lago's home in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump made his remarks.

"It is misconduct from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the arming of the justice system, an attack by radical left-wing Democrats who do not very much want me to run for president in 2024, especially on the basis of recent polls, who will do anything likewise to stop Republicans and governors in the next midterm elections," the former president said in a statement Monday evening.

Later, in an interview with Fox News, his son Eric Trump claimed the raids were linked to an investigation into the boxes of paperwork his father brought from the White House.

For months his father had been working with the National Archives on the issue.

A number of people noted that the Trump family had become concerned about the former president's prosecution over his push to overturn the 2020 presidential election, as they mocked Donald Trump Jr. 's statement with memos and jokes on social media.

Former President Donald Trump announced Monday night that the FBI had executed a search warrant at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida.

  • According to Trump, his home is "currently under siege, raids and occupation by a large group of FBI agents" who
  • among other things, "broke into" a safe belonging to the former president.
  • "After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this sudden raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."
  • The raid is directly related to classified documents Trump took from the White House.

In January, the National Archives learned that former President Donald J. Trump moved 15 boxes from the White House containing official records, memorabilia, gifts and letters to his residence in the Mar-a-Lago resort. The material in the funds was covered by the Presidential Records Act, which provides that the archives receive all paperwork related to government activity.

The National Archives informed Congress in February that after Mr.

Trump gave the boxes to the institution, the archivists discovered papers containing "items marked as classified national security material."

The FBI went to Maralago with a federal search warrant.

When they need to act quickly in a criminal investigation or fear that important materials are at risk of transport, concealment, alteration or destruction, federal law enforcement officers issue search warrants.
