A doctor revealed the five signs of a fatal infection which means you need help immediately.
Dr. Mohan Sekram, who issues health advice through his TikTok account, said there is a range of symptoms, the appearance of which refers to a life-threatening condition and requires immediate attention known as "sepsis."
If an adult or child has these signs of sepsis, they need to call an emergency or go to hospital as quickly as possible.
Sepsis occurs when the immune system overreacts to a bacterial, viral or fungal infection, and begins to damage the body's tissue and organs.
Sepsis, also known as sepsis or sepsis, has a wide range of symptoms, which often mimic other health conditions, making early detection difficult, but Dr. Sikram reveals: "Red signs of sepsis: 1. Acting confused, confused or irrational. 2. Blue, pale or spots skin in the lips or tongue. 3. Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath or breathing very quickly. 4. Protect, shake, or feel very cold. wet or sweaty skin ".
It is noted that although the condition is always caused by infection, it is not contagious and cannot be transmitted from person to person.
The culprit is often the infection we all recognize - pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, including cellulitis and stomach infections, such as appendicitis.
Usually, when a person is slightly injured, the area around the wound becomes red, swollen and warm when touched.
This is evidence that the body's immune system is starting to work, releasing white blood cells to the site of infection to kill the bacteria that cause infection.
When sepsis occurs, this system moves to increased speed.
Inflammation that appears around the minor wound is spread throughout the body, affecting healthy tissue and organs.
The immune system - the body's defence mechanism - exaggerates its reaction and the result is that it attacks the body. It can lead to organ failure and septic shock, which can be fatal.
As with many life-threatening diseases, newborns, young children and the elderly, as well as anyone with weakened immune systems, are most at risk.
Although they may affect us all, men are more likely to be infected than women, and those with darker skin are also more vulnerable than white people, and younger and older people are more likely to be affected than any other age group.
Those with diabetes, AIDS, kidney or liver disease are also at higher risk due to their weakened immune systems.
Pregnant women and those who have suffered severe burns or bodily injury are more likely to be victims of this life-threatening condition.
A person's chances of surviving sepsis depend heavily on having access to focused medical care as soon as possible. This means that the longer you receive medical care, the more likely you are to die.
